Obstacle course racing (OCR) has become a popular way for people to push themselves physically and mentally. It’s important to remember that in the beginning OCR training is about progress, not perfection.It’s important to set goals for yourself and track your progress, but it’s also important to remember that everyone starts somewhere and that progress takes time.
OCR requires a strong and well-rounded fitness foundation. This means that you should be incorporating a mix of cardio, strength training, and functional movement into your routine.
Running, cycling, and swimming are all great ways to improve your cardiovascular fitness, while weightlifting, bodyweight exercises, and functional movements like squats, deadlifts, and push-ups will help to build strength and power.
In addition to working on your overall fitness, it’s also important to specifically train for the obstacles you’ll encounter in your race. The Raceday 5k class incorporates many popular obstacles you will encounter at various races. And the technique you learn on them is invaluable regardless if you are experienced or not.
